Portacath

It's not easy to see, but here Caleb is showing off his port to you. I asked him if we could take a picture to show everyone his port and he said sure. He even shone his flashlight on the port site to help everyone see. What you're looking at is a little thing that pokes into his skin, accessing the port that goes into his bloodstream. His IV line runs from that port; that's the tubing that runs away from it. There is a clear bandaid "window" so that the medical staff can see the port, but also everything stays in place. This line does not bother Caleb at all, and he is very familiar with it. We joke about it being his leash, and celebrate when he's not connected. Which has happened once, and that was today.
